Cuckoo's Nest Locations

The thing about LARP is that it's no good dressing up in armour, hefting a life-size broadsword and then crusading from the kitchen to the living room of your mate's flat, before slaying the horde of Goblins in their next door neighbour's garden. You need reasonably authentic locations. We think we're really lucky in that we can hold our adventures in Mugdock Country Park, which, in addition to the locations on the clickable map below, has acres of woodland, moor, hills and even a swamp. We're also lucky to have such an atmospheric location in which to practice, in the form of Glasgow University's Cloisters.

Mugdock Country Park

Adventures tend to run all over the park, and there are certain notable areas. Click the icons on the picture to find out more about each location.

How to Get There

The map on the left shows where Mugdock country park is, just North of Milngavie which is itself just North of Glasgow. When embarking upon adventures, we normally go by car, as lots of our noble members don't mind driving. We generally muster at the visitor centre. Of course you don't need to worry about this if you're coming on an adventure with us because we usually meet at our usual place in Glasgow, the steps of the QM Union, and we've got plenty of people who know the way.

Thanks to a wonderful service called DigiMap, I have managed to put together a very detailed map of the park - suitable for planning routes and detailed enough to trace over and make your own IC maps, to see it in GIF format, just click here: Very detailed GIF of Mugdock Country Park. If the map resizes to fit into your browser window and you want to see it full size, go to Tools, Internet Options, Advanced and then uncheck the Enable Automatic Image Resizing checkbox under the Multimedia heading.

The Cloisters

Not the cloisters, but they look a lot like this! Weapons practice in the Cloisters The cloisters are a pillared, high-roofed stone area underneath the Bute Hall in the University's Main Building, between the East and West Quadrangles. The pillars are excellent obstacles to fight around during more conventional games, and there is a symmetrical layout, obvious "zones" in the floor tiles and convenient sets of double doors at either end which just cry out "Troll Ball"...
